New COVID-19 cases plummet in Michigan

Michigan reported far fewer coronavirus cases in the week ending Sunday, adding 5,506 new cases. That s down 45.5% from the previous week s tally of 10,096 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.
St. Joseph County reported 38 cases and two deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 78 cases and two deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 6,191 cases and 100 deaths.
Michigan ranked 10th among the states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the latest week coronavirus cases in the United States decreased 20.4% from the week before, with 140,886 cases reported. With 3% of the country s population, Michigan had 3.91% of the country s cases in the last week. Across the country, five states had more cases in the latest week than they did in the week before.
