In addition, there are 27 confirmed and two probable cases of the B.1.351 strain first detected in South Africa. Two strains originally detected in California, B.1.427 and B.1.429, account for 61 and 172 cases, respectively, and there have been 69 confirmed cases and one presumed case of the P.1 strain originally detected in Brazil. Michigan has a total of 6,121 variant cases.
Of 33,848 diagnostic tests reported Monday, 4,637 yielded positive results a positivity rate of 13.7%.
Included in Tuesday s report were 93,944 probable cases and 1,134 probable deaths, for a total of 923,464 cases and 18,563 deaths.

YPSILANTI TWP., MI – A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against a healthcare company contracted by the state’s prison system after a prisoner was given a lethal dose of antipsychotic medication.
Disability Rights Michigan with the Lipton Law firm filed a federal lawsuit Monday, April 19, in U.S. District Court seeking $5 million in damages against Corizon Health and several medical staff members for the wrongful death of Ashley Harris, 31, who died while incarcerated in the Huron Valley Women’s Correctional Facility in Ypsilanti Township in 2018.
