The Upper Peninsula Energy Task Force is calling for Michigan to invest in more electric vehicle charging stations.
The UP accounts for just 2% of the state’s charging stations, according to the task force’s new report to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. There are just 14 public charging stations with 24 charging outlets north of the Straits of Mackinac.
The report supports the goal of the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy and the Office of Future Mobility and Electrification of worry-free electric travel in Michigan by 2030. The office is part of the Michigan Economic Development Corp.

Awenate Cobbina
Awenate Cobbina, executive committee chair of the Michigan Economic Development Corp. and former Detroit Pistons executive, has taken a new job overseeing the investment and philanthropy of Shinola founder Tom Kartsotis.
Cobbina started earlier this month as CEO of Bedrock Group LP, the Dallas-based investment arm of Kartsotis, who owns Detroit-based Shinola and Seattle-based outdoor brand C.C. Filson.
Cobbina will be based in Detroit and maintain his role at the MEDC, where he is helping the organization locate a permanent leader, which he said he anticipates happening in the next six weeks.
