Officials: House fire leaves a 21-year-old dead in Middlesex County

News 12 Staff Updated on:Jan 20, 2021, 1:17pm EST Woodbridge PIO John Hagerty says a house fire in Avenel has left one person dead. The fire happened around 9:12 a.m. at the single family residential property at 88 S. Inman Ave. The Avenel Fire Department, as well as the Woodbridge Police Department, responded after initial reports said the family was trapped in the building.  Officials were able to get the family out with the exception of a 21-year-old male.  After the fire was extinguished, the male was located in the basement and pronounced deceased.  The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Aofei Zou, 18, of Middlesex was arrested Friday, Jan. 15 and charged with second-degree using a file-sharing program to store items depicting the sexual exploitation or abuse of children. He was also charged with third-degree possession of child pornography. Zou was charged following an investigation by Detective Daniel Lojek and Detective Stephanie Redline of the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit of the Middlesex County Prosecutor s Office.

Shooter sentenced in slaying of 23-year-old N.J. man, prosecutors say Updated Jan 14, 2021; A 29-year-old man was sentenced Thursday to three decades in prison the murder of a New Brunswick resident, prosecutors said. Christopher “C-Dub” Thompson must serve 41 years and eight months of his 48-year total prison term on a bevy of offenses, including the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Larenz O’Garro, shooting another man, weapons-related offenses and fleeing to Georgia after the attacks, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. Thompson fatally shot O’Garro on Oct. 28, 2018 in New Brunswick after an altercation involving a second unnamed victim and a co-defendant, prosecutors said in a statement.

Edison man sentenced for murder, attempted murder, weapons charges two years after fleeing crime scene An Edison man was sentenced for the murder of a 23-year-old New Brunswick man who he fatally shot in the city two years ago. Christopher “C-Dub” Thompson, 29, of Edison, was sentenced by Judge Thomas J. Buck to 30 years in prison for the murder of Larenz O’Garro in October 2018. Thompson was sentenced to an additional eight years in prison for the attempted murder of another man, according to information provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone on Jan. 14. This term is subject to the No Early Release Act, meaning he must serve 85% before being eligible for parole, according to the statement.

Burning car had body of Edison resident, political figure EDISON A township man who served as a U.S. representative of a political party in India was found dead in a burning car late last month. The fire was found in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 99 Hana Road on Dec. 28, according to Edison police, who have not said how the vehicle was set ablaze. A law enforcement official who did not want to be named because authorities were still awaiting a medical examiner s report, identified the man for New Jersey 101.5 as Devender Reddy Nallamada, 45. The medical examiner s report, which can take up to 12 weeks to be completed, will  determine a cause and manner of death. The Middlesex County Prosecutor s Office has said that it is not investigating the case.
