Midland County district attorney investigating criminal allegations at Midland holding facility After a complaint was brought to the Midland County Sheriff s Office, the district attorney is working to protect the migrants at the holding facility. Author: Jonathan Polasek (News West9) Published: 10:55 PM CDT April 8, 2021 Updated: 11:19 PM CDT April 8, 2021 MIDLAND, Texas The Midland County Sheriff s Department and the Midland County district attorney are looking into criminal allegations at the Midland migrant holding facility.  However, information is hard to come by because the investigation is still ongoing.  What is known is that a complaint was made to the sheriff s office last week. Laura Nodolf, Midland County s district attorney, and the sheriff were preparing for a situation like this once Midland County became a temporary home for migrant teens.

Author: Mason Storrs Updated: 10:45 PM CDT April 7, 2021 MIDLAND, Texas The Midland County District Attorney Laura Nodolf and the Midland County Sheriff s Office have launched a criminal investigation into the migrant holding facility in Midland County. The investigation follows concern from law enforcement and many elected officials that the children at the Midland migrant facility were subject to abuse and neglect. Those individuals voiced their concerns directly to Health and Human Services and the Office of Refugee Resettlement and received no answers. The level of concern became so high that the Midland County Sheriff s Office and the Midland County District Attorney s Office offered to conduct proper background checks for individuals caring for the children.

Gov Greg Abbott appoints Refugio, Lubbock sheriffs to jail commission

Refugio County Sheriff Raul “Pinky” Gonzales is one of three people who has been tapped to serve on the state’s Commission on Jail Standards. The commission sets standards for the care and treatment of county prisoners, construction, maintenance and operation of county jails. Gov. Greg Abbott announced the appointment on Wednesday. Gonzales previously served as a state game warden with Texas Parks & Wildlife. He also is vice president of the Coastal Bend Peace Officer Association and Sergeant of Arms for the Regional Sheriffs Alliance. Abbott also reappointed Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe to the commission. Rowe has been sheriff since 2009 and was re-elected in November. He began his career in law enforcement in 1993 with the Midland County Sheriff’s Office, then was hired by Lubbock County in 1999. He is the 1st vice president of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas, past president of the Texas Jail Association, and chairman of TEEX Criminal Justice Academy Advisory

Midland County Sheriff s Office ask for help solving a burglary case

Updated: 11:51 AM CST February 27, 2021 MIDLAND, Texas The Midland County Sheriff s Office is asking for help solving a burglary case.  The incident took place on January 21 around 1:05 a.m. at 13920 W. Hwy 80.  When the deputies arrived, they saw the front glass door shattered and that someone made entry into the store.  There is a video from the store showing the suspect wearing a black hoodie and gray Adidas sweat pants.  The suspect stole approximately $3,200 worth of E Cigarettes and Juul Pods.  You can see this video on the Midland Crime Stoppers Facebook page.  You can earn $1,000 in cash rewards if you have information leading to an arrest of the suspect.
