For the La Soufrière volcano in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, it was just a matter of time and that time came Friday morning when the active volcano erupted for the first time in generations, spewing hot ash and sending residents fleeing for safety.

Midwin Charles (pictured) was a Haitian-American defense attorney. She was prominent as a television personality, being the legal analyst for American television channels CNN and MSNBC. She also commented on Bloomberg TV, HLN, and TV One, and her topics included such other broad subjects as pop culture and politics.
Charles was born in Brooklyn, New York, where she was also raised. She was a graduate of Syracuse University where she earned a bachelor’s degree. She moved on to earn a Juris Doctor degree at the American University Washington College of Law.
Charles was the founder of the Midwin Charles & Associates LLC law firm. She died at the age of 47 on April 6, 2021. Her family posted the following statement via Twitter on the day of her death:
Midwin, a Syracuse University alum who got her law degree from American University, founded the New York City law firm Midwin Charles & Associates. In addition to her TV appearances on programs like CNN, MSNBC and The Wendy Williams Show, she was a contributor to Essence magazine.
Midwin s collegues and friends came out on social media to express their grief. The View co-host Sunny Hostin took to Twitter to share a message about the lawyer. Midwin was my friend. We worked together on In Session/Court TV. She was a brilliant beautiful legal mind. I will miss her and am praying for her family and especially for her mother whom she adored and spoke of so often. Rest my dear friend.

Midwin Charles, a legal analyst for CNN and MSNBC, has died at age 47, her family confirmed on social media.
“It is with a profoundly heavy heart and the deepest sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved Midwin Charles,” her family posted on her Instagram and Twitter accounts Tuesday evening.
