Electric vehicle summit wants to fast-track switch to electric

By Iñigo S. Roces With more countries pledging to only sell electric vehicles within the coming decades, many may be asking, when will the Philippines do the same? These and more obstacles to switching to electric will be discussed in the coming Electric Vehicle Summit. The event is organized by the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), together with the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) and in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE). These entities are behind the Ninth Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) on August 26-27, 2021 via the online platform, Zoom. The PEVS is the biggest annual conference promoting electric vehicles in the country, and will stage its second virtual summit next month.

Carsales jump 56 1% in 1H

Published July 13, 2021, 12:21 PM Motor vehicle sales jumped 56.1 percent in the first semester this year to 132,767 versus 85,041 units in the first six months last year when the government implemented the first hard lockdown policy due to the coronavirus pandemic. A joint report by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) stated that the automotive industry continued to adjust to the effects of the pandemic. For the first half this year, the industry reported that the passenger car segment grew the fastest with 77.3 percent increase to 42,406 units from 23,912 units versus the same period last year.
