Canadian wildfires lead to air quality alert in Minnesota Jared Dean © Jared Dean A Canadian wildfire is causing much of Minnesota to experience hazy conditions. NORTH MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency issued an air quality alert for northern, central, and southeast Minnesota due to Canadian wildfires. The air quality is being affected by wildfire smoke coming from the northern part of the state and southern Canada. Smoke moved into central and southeast Minnesota Wednesday afternoon. The air quality alert remains in effect through 6am Thursday. Poor air quality continues across NW MN, and Orange (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups) AQI is forecasted to return to central, NE, and SE MN this afternoon. When the members of Minnesota s drought task force convene, it s kind of like when the Avengers assemble circumstances aren t great. Over 50% of the state is under severe drought, and I think it s over 80% is either severe or moderate drought, DNR s Conservation Assistance and Regulations section manager Randall Doneen said. Doneen is in charge of facilitating this task force that is now convening for the first time in nearly a decade. The last time they met was back in 2012.
