Daniella Levine Cava says another victim has been found in the rubble of a collapsed Florida condo building. The new discovery brings the death toll to 12, with 149 people still unaccounted for.

Elected officials pledged Tuesday to conduct multiple investigations into the collapse of an oceanfront Florida condo tower, vowing to convene a grand jury and to look closely “at every possible angle” to prevent any other building from experiencing such a catastrophic failure.

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said Tuesday evening during a press conference that the death toll from a collapse condominium tower had risen to 12 after first responders pulled an additional body from the rubble.

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said Tuesday evening during a press conference that the death toll from a collapse condominium tower had risen to 12 after first responders pulled an additional body from the rubble.
Cava said rescue crews recovered the body on Tuesday. She added that 149 people remain unaccounted for, and 125 have been accounted for following the Thursday morning collapse.

Many Miami-Dade buildings are now getting a closer look
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Two days after the Champlain Towers South condo came down, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava ordered an emergency audit of buildings under the county’s jurisdiction.
We’re now now getting a glimpse of what’s under the inspectors’ microscopes.
Levine Cava said the county is “taking swift action” to address any outstanding issues with buildings now facing 40-year-recertification enforcement.
The county says close to 470 apartment or condo buildings are currently tagged as “unsafe” most of them one to three floors high.
