Bock is the liaison to the police department for the Millcreek Township Board of Supervisors. We just discussed authorizing the chief to start the process for up to probably several new patrol hires, which would likely take place no later than the end of July, Bock said. Preliminary talks are to authorize the chief to kind of begin the process of looking to get several new hires. That s off of the (Mercyhurst University Northwest Pennsylvania Regional Police Testing Consortium) list, and we re part of the consortium, Bock said. I believe that list was formulated in August 2020, so it would be in effect for approximately a year.

Some supervisory positions in the Millcreek Township Police Department may be eliminated as they come open. That s because the department may be top-heavy in command, according to a new study.
Forty-three percent of the department s commissioned officers are in command and supervisory jobs, with one supervisor for every three patrol officers, according to the study, which compared Millcreek staffing to best-practice standards of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
The IACP best-practice standard is one supervisor for every eight patrol officers.
“What we’re looking to accomplish here by following best practices is to right-size our command structure in order to put more officers on the street, Millcreek Township Supervisor Jim Bock said in a statement. Bock is the liaison to the police department for the Millcreek Township Board of Supervisors.
