Big Bags Were Out There, But Hard To Repeat

Big Bags Were Out There, But Hard To Repeat Monday, February 22, 2021 By John Johnson BassFan Senior Editor Following is some pattern and gear information for the 2nd- through 5th-place finishers at last week s St. Johns River Bassmaster Elite Series. 2nd: Greg Hackney > Total = 20, 69-14 Greg Hackney had two big days in his first tournament back on the circuit following a 2-year hiatus spent with the MLF Bass Pro Tour, but the first and last rounds were a bit of a struggle. I caught all of my fish out of Lake George and I never caught one that wasn t spawning, he said. The first day I fished to fast – that was a short day (due to a fog delay of almost 2 hours) and I was around the same fish I caught the next 2 days, but I was in a hurry because I only had about 3 hours to fish and I caught mostly males.

Washam wins Toyota Series at Guntersville

Washam wins Toyota Series at Guntersville Saturday, February 20, 2021    MLF Pro Circuit angler Jimmy Washam brought a five-bass limit to the scale Friday weighing 18-15 to win the Lake Guntersville Central Toyota Series with a three-day total of 58-05. Washam prevailed by a 5-10 margin over runner-up Sloan Pennington and earned $55,600. Washam said day 1 was a grind, with only two fish in his livewell by noon; however, he just happened to land on them later in the day. “I went back to an earlier spot I’d fished and they were just turned on,” he said. “They were trying to take the [bladed jig] out of my hand. I caught the 7-05 and the 4 in the last 10 minutes.”

REDCREST relocated to Lake Eufaula

REDCREST relocated to Lake Eufaula Thursday, February 18, 2021    Major League Fishing announced today that due to the winter storms, inclement weather and uncertain conditions in Texas, next week s REDCREST Championship has been shifted to Lake Eufaula in Alabama. Eufaula lies approximately 650 miles east of Lake Palestine, where the event was set to take place. The tournament dates and competition schedule will remain the same – practice will occur on Sunday and the tournament will take place Monday through Friday. Competitors will launch from Lakepoint State Park. “We’ve exhausted every option available to try to remain at Lake Palestine, but with the disaster-like conditions that the area is currently facing we couldn’t, as an organization, come in and use their valuable resources – water, electricity, food, hotel rooms – and celebrate our championship event when the local community is suffering,” said Michael Mulone, MLF senior director of events & partner

Chalk Talk: Big fish on shaky-heads with Thrift

Chalk Talk: Big fish on shaky-heads with Thrift Friday, February 19, 2021 ( Editor s note: The following is the latest installment in a series of fishing tips presented by The Bass University. Check back each Friday for a new tip.) When Bryan Thrift won the Toyota Texas Bass Classic on Lake Conroe, he knew by the final day of competition that the fish had been beaten up. As the event came to a close, he had a limit in the boat but needed a kicker. He didn’t pick up a big jig or a monster swimbait. Instead, he allowed a shaky-head to do his damage. Fifteen minutes before he had to weigh in, he pulled up on a brush pile near the ramp, flicked in his worm and landed a 6-pounder that put him over the top to win by 4 pounds.
