4 Lures Lester says will shine at St Johns

4 Lures Lester says will shine at St. Johns Wednesday, February 10, 2021 (Editor s note: Alan McGuckin at Dynamic Sponsorships provided this short feature.) Perhaps the coolest thing about asking Brandon Lester to share four lures with fans that he thinks will be major players at the St. Johns River Bassmaster Elite Series is that he currently has no soft-plastic or crankbait sponsor. So, what you’re getting here is unbiased authenticity in its purest form. Plus, Lester has fished several Elite Series events on this famed northeast Florida river, including leading after day 1 of the 2016 event thanks to a 9-pounder he caught from a bed. Thus, his opinions are not only authentic, but dripping with experience too.

It’s best to wait a few seconds after the cast. Let things settle down a bit; allow the rings to disappear, as the old-timers say. During that brief interval it’s nearly impossible not to imagine a lunker easing up to the unknown intruder now lying on the surface. I can just about see the big bass each time, nosing the lure.

Darker, Less Grassy St Johns To Host Elite Series Opener

By B.A.S.S. Communications Staff John Cox wishes he could experience temporary amnesia during this week s Bassmaster Elite Series event at the St. Johns River. That’s because much of what the Florida pro has learned over the past two decades of fishing this big-fish factory will be of little relevance during the 2021 season-opener. Competition runs today through Sunday, with daily takeoffs at 7 a.m. ET from Palatka City Docks and weigh-ins each day at 3 p.m. from Palatka Riverfront Park.
