PNP says it s deeply troubled by increasing lawlessness in Jamaica

Mark Golding With the spate of crimes against women over recent weeks, the Opposition People s National Party (PNP) has said it is deeply troubled by what the party cited as increasing lawlessness in the country. Additionally, the party said it is likewise troubled about the lack of any discernible strategy to stem the tide as the island experiences panic, concern and a certain numbness from the repeated reports of fatal attacks and abductions of women. In a statement on Wednesday, Opposition Leader, Mark Golding, outlined several recent incidents which he said deepened the sense of vulnerability among women, demoralising the entire population .

Violence against women reducing, claims commish amid outrage

When pressed to identify the contributory factors that have led to a reduction in violent attacks against women, Anderson suggested that it was the type of policing that we have been doing. Certainly the preventative policing methods that we are doing. But, also there is a correlation between the number of women say, who are killed, and the overall numbers, he opined. You know you can see if you track back over time, you can t have a peaceful society for women if you don t have a peaceful society for everyone. We are following some specific leads in that (Bennett s killing). We have a fair idea of who did it, Anderson said while shying away from disclosing the identity of the suspect. However, he expressed confidence that the individual will be apprehended shortly. But this (killing) is one that is not cold and I suspect not long from now we will probably have the person in custody, Anderson assured.

Commish commends Jamaicans for complying with lockdown

Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson having a discussion with a police officer at a check point in St Catherine North Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson, is commending Jamaicans for obeying the islandwide lockdown imposed by the Government.  It s clear that most people are being compliant with the orders, Anderson stated while touring sections of the St  Catherine North Division on Good Friday. He was accompanied by other senior commanders to help sure up support for the various police teams managing the lockdown. The chief lawman explained that there had been a strong police presence at the areas that he had visited.
