ISLAMABAD: In a first official reaction to the storming of the United States Congress building by pro-Trump supporters, Pakistan offered a guarded reaction.
“We are closely following the developments in Washington DC. We are hopeful that the situation will soon normalise and would not in any way impact the ongoing transition process. We also wish to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden on certification of his win by the US Congress,” spokesman at the Foreign Office said at the weekly media briefing.
When asked to comment on demands by Afghan authorities to return seven victims in the militant attack on Hazara coalminers in Mach, there was no definite response.
Govt Plans to Bring Madrassas Under State Control
The Ministry of Interior Affairs says the government plans to take control of a network of over 5,000 madrassas as part of a drive to mainstream religious schools by putting them under the control of the state.
As part of the new plan, all madrassas are supposed to conduct their education activities under the monitoring of the government to help prevent possible misuse of these schools and ensure their security coverage under a system security policy.
The Afghan government does not have an exact figure about the number of the madrassas in the country, but a total of 5,000 are currently registered within the Afghan Ministry of Haj and Religious Affairs. Of the figure, 250 Madrasas are operating in Kabul.

Kabul (BNA) In an effort to reduce security incidents and crimes in Kabul city, First Vice President Amrullah Saleh on Wednesday announced that the city will be covered by security cameras with modern technology.
VP Saleh said that it will cost over $100 million and will be supported by NATO’s Resolute Support Mission. “The space will become narrower for terrorists and thieves, not wider,” Saleh said.
He also mentioned that “due to fears of surprise operations by the security forces, the terrorists have thrown the explosive devices in the garbage in two parts of Kabul city–the National Directorate of Security (NDS) found 40 kg of explosives in Rahman Baba area of Kabul.”
Taliban’s Fight is Over Power, Not Religion : Saleh
First Vice President Amrullah Saleh on Thursday, while speaking at a gathering in Nangarhar, said that the real fight is over power.
The Taliban has not replied to the question about their definition of an Islamic system, Saleh said, adding that “the real fight is over power, not religion. We need peace with dignity that ensures women s rights, Saleh said. “There will be no compromise on the republic, human rights and the nation s flag.”
He also mentioned that the Taliban and those who support the Taliban are behind all the destruction and the killing of the people in the country.
