Some members of the Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament) said on Monday that since the start of First Vice President Amrullah Saleh’s 6.30am daily meetings, security in Kabul has deteriorated.
They said that government has failed to maintain security and because of this the number of people killed has increased.
“People want security, but they are making sacrifices everyday, and no one hears their voices. Kabul’s situation is bad and the situation in the provinces is worse. The country has become a slaughterhouse, and no one is being held responsible,” said one MP Mohammad Zahir Tamim.
Death Toll of Kabul’s Attack on MP Rises to 10
First Vice President Amrullah Saleh on Monday said that at least 10 people were killed and 52 others were wounded in Sunday’s car bomb attack on the convoy of an Afghan MP in Kabul.
“Only six of the wounded remained at the hospital and most of them have been discharged,” Saleh said.
On Sunday, a car bomb targeted the vehicle of Haji Khan Mohammad Wardak, a member of parliament from Kabul. Wardak survived the attack.
The explosion happened in Spin Kalay square in PD5 of the city while the convoy of MP Wardak was passing the area, according to the officials.
First Lady’s Remarks Continue to Draw Criticism
First Lady Rula Ghani’s recent statements dismissing public criticism of her husband s administration and policies and calling the Afghan parliament a vote-trading ground continued to spark responses from critics and members of the public who said such remarks show the government s disregard for the principle of freedom of expression.
Talking to Radio Azadi this week, First Lady Ghani said the people’s criticism and blaming of President Ghani are rooted in their misunderstanding and said it is their own problem.
“The people are showing a lack of understanding. It is their own problem. It is not my problem or Mr. President’s problem. The people should understand the value of Mr. President,” Rula Ghani said.
