No-fault indemnity is PM’s ‘desperate attempt’ to ‘deflect’ from vaccine shortage29/06/2021|6min
Former Labor Senator Stephen Conroy says the decision to give GPs no-fault indemnity for AstraZeneca shots given to under 60s is a “desperate attempt” by Prime Minster Scott Morrison to “deflect” from a vaccine shortage.
“I think it’s a desperate attempt by the prime minister to deflect from the fundamental problem that we’ve got here in Australia, that we don’t have enough vaccines,” he told Sky News.
“If you’re an Australian under 60 at the moment you’ve got to be shaking your head and scratching it because just 10 days ago the government said we are concerned enough over the side effects of AstraZeneca to say don’t give it to people under the age of 60 .
Government should come clean about plans for Tamil family15/06/2021|6min
Former Labor Senator Stephen Conroy says the government should “come clean” about its plans for the Tamil family after Immigration Minister Alex Hawke announced they will be reunited in Perth.
He said the government should “stop pretending” it is only a temporary measure and admit the family will be allowed to stay.
“They clearly now intend to allow them to stay in Australia and they should just be honest about it,” Mr Conroy told Sky News.
“People shouldn’t think that this means this should be the permanent situation for everybody who comes.”

Former Labor Senator Stephen Conroy says the federal government has “completely incompetently botched” the vaccine rollout as the Victorian government considers extending the seven-day lockdown.
“The lockdown is tough and if it was to be extended it’ll be a real blow to Victorians, the challenges we had that came last time everyone was rightfully proud of but being put in this position again, the health advice is needed,” he told Sky News.
“The sort of spread we’re starting to see through aged care is a real worry, people died last time, we can’t afford for that, we’ve got to take precautions the health experts advise to us.”
Former Labor Senator Stephen Conroy says federal Labor has fallen back to the “same tired message” on gas and renewables which failed it at the 2016 and 2019 elections.
“The message that’s coming to us from the Hunter Valley is very clear, ‘if you’re going to dictate policy that’s entirely around satisfying your inner-city electors then we are going to give you the heave-ho’,” he said.
“Which is why I’ve been surprised at the argument that federal Labor’s been making around this gas plant.
“Labor’s position on this gas plant is no there’s no business case for it.
“Well if it guarantees that transition from fossil fuels to renewables, which is what the Labor Party says it’s about, I cannot understand this argument.
“So I think Joel Fitzgibbon is right to continue raise that we’ve had this argument about renewables, we’ve had this argument about gas and its role in the transition.
“And yet at the first opportunity Scott Morrison plays rop
