In the latest development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday booked former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Indian Penal Codeâs section 120 B (criminal conspiracy).
The CBI said on Saturday that its preliminary enquiry (PE) has found that a prima facie cognisable offence is made out against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and others pertaining to alleged corruption and misuse of power.
The CBI said that Deshmukh and some unknown others had attempted to take undue advantage for improper and dishonest performance of their public duty .

Mumbai: In a major development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and others in connection with allegations made by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. The agency is conducting searches at various places. After the Preliminary Enquiry against Deshmukh got complete, a report was submitted to the CBI Director. We have now registered an FIR in the said matter and are conducting searches. The decision to register an FIR was done following the evidences and documents provided by those who were questioned during the enquiry, said a CBI official.

Mumbai: The CBI has booked former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in connection with allegations of bribery against him and carried out searches at various locations in Mumbai on Saturday, officials said.
The probe agency had carried out a preliminary enquiry on the orders of Bombay High Court to look into the allegations against him levelled by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, they said.
Anil Deshmukh According to the officials, during the enquiry, the CBI got enough prima facie material to start a formal probe by registering a regular case against Deshmukh and other unidentified persons under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
