Ceremonies sweep campus

  Angelo State University’s RAMbassadors program and Honors Program held ceremonies commemorating their graduating members May 3 and 4, respectively.   The RAMbassadors ceremony took place in the Vista Verde Room at Plaza Verde. Graduating seniors were awarded stoles celebrating their time and efforts in the program. The event also commemorated other volunteers who have participated in the leadership program in the past.   RAMbassadors is a volunteer leadership program housed in the Office of Admissions. According to the campus website, the organization helps students learn time management, communication, customer service, marketing, interpersonal and leadership skills to benefit them in their future careers.   “We appreciate the support of the university as we continue to recruit our future Ram Fam,” Amanda Ritchie, assistant director of admissions, said. “RAMbassadors are a key part of that recruitment process.”

The Mounties scored the lone goal of the game with 22:01 to play. Northwest outshot Coldwater 9-3, with Taylor Robison making six saves in goal. The loss drops Coldwater to 1-4 in the Interstate 8 Conference and 4-7 overall. The Lady Cardinals returns to action at Grand Ledge in non-conference play Saturday afternoon, with the junior varsity game at 3:00 p.m., followed by the varsity at 4:30 p.m.

Stuttgart High School prepares for in-person commencement ceremony, senior night

Stuttgart High School graduation will take place Friday, May 14, at 7 p.m. at Ned Moseley Stadium. School counselor Angie Sherman said this year’s graduation ceremony will look slightly different compared to pre-pandemic commencements. In a decision made Tuesday during a specially called school board meeting, the board voted to allow participating students to remove their masks when they reach the goal post of the stadium and to keep them off until the conclusion of the ceremony. Students will be required to wear their masks when they receive their actual diplomas inside the field house following the on-field commencement exercise. Attendees will be required to wear masks.

School board modifies mask policy for graduating seniors, approves virtual learning policies for next year

Assistant Superintendent Kathy Hopson at last night’s specially called school board meeting. During a specially called meeting last night of the Stuttgart School District’s Board of Directors, the board voted to approve virtual learning policies for the 2021-22 school year and to modify the mask policy for graduation and senior night. Board members Tim Vose, Candace Prine, Jennifer Payton, and Carla Gipson were present at the meeting on Tuesday, April 27. First on the agenda was a resolution to adopt Act 1240, allowing the district to petition the Arkansas Board of Education (ADE) for the same waivers granted to charter schools for hiring unlicensed teachers. According to Superintendent Dr. Rick Gales, unlicensed teachers can be hired under the provision, as long as they complete a two-year program to become ADE-licensed under their employment contract.
