CALAX segment due in Q3 now 93% complete

BusinessWorld April 30, 2021 | 5:59 pm THE 7.2-kilometer segment of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) set to be finished by the third quarter is 93% complete, MPCALA Holdings Inc. said. Toll structures for the Silang East interchange have been put up, while drainage construction as well as express road and safety features installation are on track, the company said in a press release on Friday. The segment, or subsection 5, links Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Interchange to Silang East Interchange. It is part of the 45-kilometer CALAX expressway running from Kawit, Cavite to Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna. “Once operational, we expect CALAX (segment) to serve around 5,000 motorists daily, thereby helping decongest traffic along Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway, and Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road,” MPCALA President and General Manager Roberto V. Bontia said.

Higher metal prices drive Philex Mining s Q1 profit surge

The listed miner told the stock exchange its net income attributable to equity holders of the parent company surged to P559.57 million in the January to March period, from P102.3 million during the same period in 2020. Core net income increased over five times to P540 million, as revenues rose 38% to P2.37 billion. Philex Mining said realized gold prices hit $1,781 per ounce in the first quarter, up 11% from year ago levels. Realized copper prices stood at $3.95 per pound in the first quarter this year, 68% higher than a year ago.

Maynilad hoping for early conclusion to water deal review

BusinessWorld April 22, 2021 | 8:14 pm WEST ZONE water supplier Maynilad Water Services, Inc. said it is hoping for a conclusion to the review of its concession agreement with the government “as soon as possible.” At a virtual briefing Thursday, Maynilad President and Chief Executive Officer Ramoncito S. Fernandez said the company has started formal communications with the government on the new agreement, adding that he expects a fair and reasonable review. “As far as the timetable is concerned, I do not have any projection or forecast for when it would be finished. But Maynilad is expecting it to finish early so that we can continue all the programs for the long-term water supply and improvement of services to Metro Manila,” Mr. Fernandez said.
