Burdwan blast case: NIA court sentences top Bangladeshi terrorist to 29 years in jail

KOLKATA: A special NIA court here on Wednesday sentenced the India head of Bangladesh-based terrorist organisation Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) to 29 years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 for his involvement in the 2014 Burdwan blast case.
Kausar, a resident of Bangladesh s Maymansingh division, was convicted by the court under sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act and the Foreigners Act.

Sources said during their meeting with NIA, Mossad officials shared some information that they had collected about the blast.
On January 29, a minor IED blast of very low intensity took place near the Israeli embassy in New Delhi. No one was injured in the blast, though a few vehicles were damaged.
Israel termed the blast as an act of terrorism and said it was not surprised about the attack. It added that it has confidence in Indian agencies investigating the case.
The investigation was initially being carried out by the Delhi Police Special Branch. But on February 2, the Union home ministry transferred the probe to the NIA.
