WA election: Mark McGowan declares Labor will run a centrist government after overwhelming win

I am done in politics : Katsambanis reacts to Labor s landslide victory in WA election

Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan claimed a landslide victory in Saturday’s election winning a second term. As of latest available date, the final outcome prediction stands at 52 lower house seats for Labor, three for Liberals and four for Nationals. But the ABC had called the election for Labor less than an hour after polls closed. Taking to the stand shortly after Mr McGowan, who saw his personal approval rating sitting at a whopping 88% – attributed greatly to the hard border policy of the relatively COVID-free state – spoke of a “humbling experience”. “The magnitude of what has happened today is not lost on me, but with it comes great responsibility,” he said.

WA Labor set for record win: Newspoll | Sky News Australia

West Australian Premier Mark McGowan is expected to deliver a record win, securing a 30-point lead in an election-eve Newspoll in the two-party preferred vote. The Labor Party shows a 66 to 34 lead, almost certainly securing the premier a victory. The 10.5 per cent swing toward the government could see the Liberals reduced to just three seats in WA's lower house. Voters will today head to the polls as Mr McGowan takes on Liberal Zak Kirkup.

WA Election 2021: A politician being lauded like an Instagram idol makes no sense But this is a WA state election like no other

ANALYSIS: It was always going to be an election in Western Australia like no other. The State had navigated the height of a global pandemic crisis with relative ease, compared to other parts of the country and the world. With every hard-line decision about border controls, crowd numbers and venue closures, Premier Mark McGowan s popularity only soared. At one point polling had his approval rating at an unprecedented 88 per cent. He spoke, the people of WA listened and through a combination of stubborn management and blind luck, Covid-19 was not only suppressed it was eliminated. Heck, it barely made a dent on WA.
