The Hamlet of Hurleyville Gets a Traditional Tuscan Salumeria click to enlarge Hurleyville’s quaint main drag has undergone a quiet renaissance in recent years. Backed by the benevolent benefactor The Center for Discovery, with its altruistic mission and seemingly bottomless funding, the shabby, run-down buildings of my childhood town have been renovated, restored, and rented out through their Healthy Community Model. The Pickled Owl serves up craft beer and farm-to-table fare. The Hurleyville General Store offers artisanal products for the kitchen, body, and home. A rail trail bisecting Main Street offers a convenient and scenic thoroughfare for strollers and stroller-pushers, joggers, cyclists, dog-walkers, and families.

“As each day passes, we can see the mountains shift from gray to green and the cool nights are perfect for enjoying a beer by our firepits,” said Ashley Bohan, Operations Manager at West Kill Brewing in the Catskills.
“Since we are a brewery that enjoys foraging and adding foraged ingredients to our beers, spring is a very exciting and hopeful time of year. We can finally start to see ramps and mushrooms popping up in the woodlands, we can add more fruit trees to our orchard and watch them grow, and we can collect spruce tips and creeping thyme to add to our beers.”

Happy New Year!
Well, we certainly wonât forget 2020 Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with heavy rain on top of two feet of snow. Very difficult time with flooding, evacuations, concerns for everyoneâs safety, all the firefighters, law enforcement, EMS, highway crews working around the clock to help. As bad as this was, it wasnât the same level as Tropical Storm Irene in 2011. We can be thankful for that.
There are numerous road closures here on the Mountain Top. Just three of them listed here â Route 42 in West Kill is closed from Haines Lane to Howard Road. We will have to use Beech Ridge Road as a detour. Section of County Route 17 is also closed and Route 214. Please be careful.
