KNBN NewsCenter1 Black Hills Tire employee receives Dakota Build scholarship In 2015 the Build Dakota Scholarship Fund was created to meet the need for skilled labor workers in the state, giving students the opportunity to enter programs in high need industries and finish school debt free. A Black Hills Tire employee recently secured his future with the company. August 3, 2021 RAPID CITY, S.D. The Build Dakota Scholarship Program was started to help put more workers in the workforce, especially programs in high demand, like nursing filed, welding and automotive. Jeannie Best, Asst. Dir. Scholarships Western Dakota Technical Institute, says, “It’s a free education. The Department of Labor and the Build Dakota board really take into consideration programs and fields that pay well upon graduation. So these people, as they’re getting out into the workforce can sustain the cost of living.”

The Board of Technical Education got a report on placements and salaries at their meeting last week. Deputy Executive Director Scott DesLauriers says they tracked those who graduated in 2019 and 2020… DesLauriers says they figured an average starting pay for those graduates.. DesLauriers says they also found most graduates stay in their field of study… The board oversees and coordinates classes at Lake Area Tech in Watertown, Mitchell Tech, Southeast Tech in Sioux Falls and Western Dakota Tech in Rapid City. Technical college graduates in South Dakota land good jobs, good salaries Jerry Oster, WNAXMay 25, 2021Business SD Department of Technical Education PIERRE, SD – Graduates of South Dakota Technical Colleges are landing jobs and good paying ones. The Board of Technical Education got a report on placements and salaries at their meeting last week. Scott DesLauriers Deputy Executive Director Scott DesLauriers says they tracked those who graduated in 2019 and 2020.  “The last column reflects total placement. These are students employed in continuing education and in the military.  This has an impressive 99.2 percent placement rate.  Almost 100 percent of the students who graduate are employed, in continuing education or are in the military.”
