The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) yesterday confirmed that US Ambassador to the UN Kelly Craft would visit Taiwan from Wednesday to Friday next week, and would give a speech on Taiwan’s contributions to the global community.
“During her trip, the ambassador will reinforce the US government’s strong and ongoing support for Taiwan’s international space, in accord with the US’ one-China policy that is guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the three US-PRC [People’s Republic of China] joint communiques and the six assurances to Taiwan,” the AIT said in a statement.

Taipei, Jan. 7 (CNA) A migrant worker confirmed last week by Vietnamese authorities as having contracted COVID-19 after working in Taiwan tested negative following a second test, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Thursday.
Speaking at a press event in Taipei, CECC spokesman Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) said the latest result was based on feedback provided by the Vietnamese authorities.
Chuang said there is a possibility the initial positive test may have been due to a false positive.
The case involved a woman in her 30s who returned to her home country on Dec. 30 and tested positive for COVID-19 last Saturday.

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) yesterday confirmed that a fifth person in Taiwan is infected with a COVID-19 variant first detected in the UK.
A British man in his 30s, who arrived on Wednesday last week to work, tested positive for the disease on Saturday while in quarantine at a government center, the CECC said.
Genome sequencing concluded that he was infected with the new variant, Centers for Disease Control Deputy Director-General Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥), who is the CECC’s spokesman, told a news conference in Taipei.
