Case proceeds for Moranbah man charged over brutal assault

Premium Content Subscriber only A Moranbah man, who was charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, remains on bail following a further court adjournment on Thursday. David Rawiri Edwards, the owner of Treespec CQ, was arrested and charged in October, following ongoing investigations into the alleged attack on Justin Karl Herlihy on September 30, but was later released on Supreme Court bail in December. At the first court appearance on November 2, Magistrate Robert Walker said Mr Edwards allegedly took a metre-long black metal bar and struck the victim in the shin area before striking in other areas including his head, face and arms in a “brutal” assault.

Woman charged with high-range drink-driving at mining town

Premium Content Subscriber only A Mackay woman has been arrested and charged after she was allegedly caught high-range drink-driving through a residential street at Moranbah. The 41-year-old Bucasia woman allegedly recorded a blood-alcohol content reading of 0.171 after she was intercepted by police at Lawson Drive about 10.30pm on April 14. Senior Sergeant Adam Dyer said the woman was pulled over for a random breath-test when she recorded the positive result. The woman s driver s licence was immediately suspended and she has been issued a notice to appear at Moranbah Magistrates Court on May 13.

Father caught drink-driving hours after big night out

Premium Content Subscriber only A Moranbah father risked his family’s livelihood when choosing to drive just hours after drinking during a big night out. Mathew Vincent Buswell, 51, pleaded guilty in Moranbah Magistrates Court on April 15 to driving over the general alcohol limit but not over the middle limit. The father of three young children was driving home from Mackay about 11.40am on February 21 when he was intercepted by police on Peak Downs Highway for a roadside breath test. Police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Cramp said Buswell returned a blood-alcohol content reading of .057. Buswell said he had been drinking at the Mackay races the day prior and stopped drinking about 4am the morning of the offence.
