Second person charged with second-degree murder in Manitoba Metis woman s killing

RCMP said in a release earlier in the week that a 15-year-old boy from Winnipeg was also arrested but he was released without charges. Police say Benoit was a much-loved mother who was researching her Metis background and history before she died. She had been reported missing to Winnipeg police on July 10. RCMP said she was last seen in the area of Portage la Prairie and Long Plain First Nation on May 23. In a news conference on Thursday, RCMP Supt. Michael Koppang said he could not provide many details on what happened. RCMP, Winnipeg police, and the Manitoba First Nation Police Service were involved in the investigation.
