TWRA: Man dies after kayak capsizes on Percy Priest in Rutherford Co

A man is dead after his kayak capsized on Percy Priest Lake in Rutherford County on Saturday, officials said. Larry Basler, a 60-year-old Murfreesboro man, was with a group of three kayakers when his boat overturned near the East Fork boat ramp, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said. Basler called for help, was rescued and given CPR on the bank of the lake.  He died Sunday evening at TriStar Skyline Medical Center, the TWRA said. Crews from the TWRA, Rutherford County Fire Department, Rutherford County EMS and Rutherford County Sheriff s Office responded to the scene. The TWRA said the cause of the incident is under investigation. 

Drug Take Back set for Saturday at Rutherford County Sheriff s Office

Rutherford County Sheriff s Office Old and unused medicines, liquid medicines and a small amount of needles may be brought to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office for safe disposal Saturday. Deputies will accept the medications during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sheriff’s Office, 940 New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro, said Evidence Sgt. Robert Dowell. “We will also take vapes,” Dowell said. Unused and expired pills and tablets may be disposed of any time in a bin located in the front lobby of the Sheriff’s Office, Dowell said. Vapes, needles and liquid medicines are not accepted in the bins.

Man s car shot on Interstate 24 near Smyrna A man escaped injury when another driver fired two bullets into his car Monday morning on Interstate 24 near Smyrna, a Rutherford County Sheriff’s detective said. The driver, a Nashville resident, was traveling in the lane closest to the median toward Nashville in his red, four-door Mazda 3, Detective Richard Brinkley said. “A person driving a white, possibly compact sedan, unsuccessfully attempted to merge into the same lane,” Brinkley said. “After the attempted merge, it is believed that this person then fired two bullets into the vehicle. . A bullet did not strike (the driver).”
