CHENNAI: Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan will visit Chennai to review preparedness and to oversee Covid-19 vaccine dry run that will be conducted in all the districts in Tamil Nadu on Friday.
According to the programme schedule released by the State health department, Harsh Vardhan will visit session site at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital at 8.30 am. From there, the minister will visit another session site at Government Omandurar Medical College Hospital at 9.45 am.

State sees 811 fresh cases, 11 deaths; Perambalur records no new infection
On a day when the State reported 811 fresh cases of COVID-19, Perambalur recorded no new infection and 13 districts recorded fewer than 10 cases each. The State recorded 11 more deaths, including that of a 21-year-old woman from Ranipet.
Those testing positive included seven returnees five from West Bengal and one each from Andhra Pradesh and Bihar.
A total of 228 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Chennai. With this, the city’s tally touched 2,26,937 (2,20,575 persons discharged, 2,327 active cases and 4,035 deaths). Coimbatore followed with 87 cases, while Chengalpattu and Salem saw 47 and 43 cases respectively. Tiruvallur reported 36 cases, while the remaining districts saw fewer than 30 cases each.

As of date, 46,200 vaccine sites have been readied in Tamil Nadu
With the dry run for COVID-19 vaccines being simultaneously held at 17 health facilities in the State on Saturday, Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan said each vaccine centre will have the capacity to vaccinate 100 persons a day.
“The Centre had instructed that the dry run should be held at three sites in the State’s capital. In TN, we are holding the dry run in five districts that includes places such as The Nilgiris, which is a hilly region, Tirunelveli district in the south, and Coimbatore and Tiruvallur. We are conducting the trial simultaneously in 17 places,” he told reporters at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, one of the three dry run sites in Chennai.
