A 17-year-old teenager from the UK who ate her own hair ended up developing a massive hairball in her stomach that tore through her stomach wall. The oval-shaped hairball was 48 centimetres long and completely filled her stomach, according to a new report published in
BMJ Case Reports.
The teen was diagnosed with Rapunzel syndrome which is an extremely rare intestinal condition in humans resulting from the ingestion of hair (trichophagia).
