Riverside police have arrested a 19-year-old Riverside man on suspicion of animal cruelty after being tipped off about a social media post showing a severely injured Chihuahua who later died.
On Saturday, authorities received a call about a video posted online of a small Chihuahua with a large laceration to its neck gasping for air, the Riverside Police Department said. The video showed a young man standing over the Chihuahua and discussing hurting the dog, police said.
Police traced the posting through the social media profile to the 3500 block of Lou Ella Lane in Riverside, where they found a man who matched the description of the suspect in the video, allegedly with fresh blood stains on his clothes and cuts on his hands, police said in a news release.

CORONA, CA An Arizona citizen watch group that works to snare sexual predators helped lead authorities to a Corona man who allegedly attempted to lure a 15-year-old girl, according to the Riverside County Sheriff s Department.
Steven Rawley, 35, was arrested by investigators at 10:45 a.m. Feb. 2 at his apartment on Ridgeline Drive in Corona on suspicion of unlawful sex with a minor, lewd and lascivious acts with a child, and lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, jail records show.
Rawley was released from Riverside s Robert Presley Detention Center the following day on $75,000 bail. He has not been charged yet, the Riverside County District Attorney s Office confirmed Thursday.

RIVERSIDE, CA A fugitive from New Mexico was apprehended in Riverside following an hours-long standoff with a SWAT unit that ended peacefully, authorities said Friday.
Ralph Miera, 42, a parolee from Colorado, was arrested Thursday night after being persuaded to surrender at an apartment building in the 1400 block of Clemson Way.
According to Riverside Police Department Officer Ryan Railsback, local investigators became aware of Miera s presence during communications with authorities from New Mexico, where he is charged with aggravated assault and armed kidnapping.

MORENO VALLEY, CA A duo suspected of robbing Southern Californians of their French bulldogs were arrested this week by Moreno Valley deputies, the Riverside County Sheriff s Department reported.
Joshua Reneau, 29, and Serenity Gershon, 20, both from Hawthorne, were taken into custody Wednesday on suspicion of second-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime, jail records show.
Both were taken into custody in Hawthorne. They were released from Riverside s Robert Presley Detention Center Thursday in lieu of $30,000 bail each, according to jail records.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA A jail inmate taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment died at the hospital, evidently due to a pre-existing condition, authorities said Wednesday.
The detainee, whose identity was not immediately released, died about 7:10 p.m. Tuesday in a secure wing of the county hospital, according to the Riverside County Sheriff s Department.
Capt. James Krachmer said the inmate was transferred to the medical facility from the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside for care of undisclosed medical issues that the man had before being booked into jail.
