(KEYC) The death of a Mankato two-year-old is ruled a homicide by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner. A teenager is now in custody in connection with the case. The Mankato Department of Public Safety has arrested a 16-year-old male in connection to the death of a 2-year-old boy. “Lee Wayne Young Jr. was taken into custody yesterday afternoon. He is being held at a juvenile detention center up in Carver County,” Mankato Public Safety Cmdr. Chris Baukol said. Police first responded to an apartment on Eastport Drive on April 16 for what they called a medical incident. The child was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A news release issued today by the City of Mankato says the determination by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner s Office led to the arrest of a teenage boy. The 16-year-old was taken into custody on Wednesday and now faces a second-degree murder charge stemming from the death of a two-year-old boy on April 16th. The teenage suspect is currently being held in a secured juvenile facility. According to the Mankato Free Press, the criminal complaint against Lee Wayne Young Jr. alleges the toddler was beaten to death and sexually assaulted.

(FOX 9) - A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 2-year-old boy in Mankato, Minnesota.  On April 16, the Mankato Department of Public Safety responded to a medical incident on Eastport Drive. A 2-year-old boy was brought to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.  The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the boy’s death a homicide.  On April 28, police arrested a 16-year-old boy near his house on the 500 block of North 5th Street, according to the Mankato Department of Public Safety. He has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held in a juvenile detention facility.
