Hesperia Days to return in September after COVID-19 halted 2020 installment Victorville Daily Press Americana and normalcy are expected to be on full display in September when the Hesperia Days Parade and Celebration returns after the coronavirus pandemic canceled last year’s festivities. This year will mark the 72nd edition of the event that first began in 1948 when 13-year-old Lillian (Stratton) Platt, wore the crown as the first Miss Hesperia and rodeo queen.  Hesperia Recreation and Park District General Manager Nicolas Chavez, who was hired in July 2020 and missed out on his first Hesperia Days experience, said the popular two-day event is slated to begin Sept. 18 with a full day of activities.

Elderly man killed in Apple Valley while trying to cross Bear Valley Road Victorville Daily Press A 70-year-old man was killed when a passing vehicle struck him Easter Sunday as the man attempted to cross Bear Valley Road, east of Apple Valley High School, authorities say. Deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff s Station, as well as Apple Valley Fire Protection District personnel, responded at about 8:37 p.m. Sunday to an area of Bear Valley Road east of Quinnault Road after receiving a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze, station officials said. Deputies determined the 66-year-old man behind the wheel of the Chevy had been traveling westbound on Bear Valley Road when he hit the pedestrian, who died at the scene.
