City spokesperson Sue Jones said Friday that the Amazon facility, which will occupy the building near Balsam Avenue and Bear Valley Road, is “not a warehouse,” but a speed package delivery outlet. The company s delivery stations are designed to “power the last mile of Amazon’s order fulfillment process.” Packages are transported to delivery stations from the company’s fulfillment and sortation centers, then loaded into vehicles for delivery to customers, Amazon said.

Susan Conway, the founder of God’s Hand, said VVC students and faculty are invited to the support event that begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at Victorville First Assembly of God on Nisqualli Road. “We will have free food boxes, clothing, resources, (a) taco man, Kona Ice and other activities,” Conway said. “We want to encourage the students to meet and greet each other and to get plugged into our community and the new program at VVC.”
