Teen driver arrested after allegedly leading deputy on high-speed chase in Apple Valley Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old boy following a high-speed pursuit in Apple Valley earlier this week. The Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station reported Thursday that Deputy Stuart Cullum observed a Cadillac SLS speeding eastbound on Bear Valley Road at 11:07 p.m. Wednesday. Cullum attempted to stop the vehicle before a short chase ensued. The driver, later identified as the 17-year-old boy whose name was not released, allegedly drove recklessly through a residential area, reaching speeds of over 90 mph and crossing over double yellow lines, the report said.

Pablo Quinones appeared in court Tuesday afternoon via video and posted bail later that night after a judge set the amount at $100,000, records show. He is due back in court March 2 for a pre-trial hearing. A public defender was assigned to his case. The Hesperia Sheriff’s Station reported Friday that deputies arrested Quinones after he allegedly evaded them in his vehicle, which included a 17-year-old passenger.

Early morning fire damages Scottish Rite of Freemasonry building in San Bernardino Victorville Daily Press A fire broke out inside the San Bernardino Scottish Rite of Freemasonry building early Saturday, damaging the structure that is a familiar sight for commuters driving along Interstate 215. Shortly before 1:30 a.m. Saturday, San Bernardino County Fire tweeted a 2-alarm fire with flames through the building’s roof. County Fire identified the building as the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry about 20 minutes later, adding that crews continued an offensive interior attack of the structure at 4400 N. Varsity Avenue. The Scottish Rite building is located about 1 ½ miles from the California State University, San Bernardino campus. The building is visible from I-215.

Victorville Daily Press Apple Valley resident Virginia Dale Quimby Laprise was born in 1921 when gasoline cost nearly 35 cents per gallon.  Laprise celebrated her 100th birthday on Thursday during a socially distant, themed open house with masked friends and family at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Apple Valley. “My grandma is an amazing woman,” said Teresa Salazar, a teacher with the Victor Elementary School District. “At 100, her mind is still sharp as can be.” “During her party, we had a microphone set up for guests to ask her questions about her life,” Salazar added. “We also had a mic set up from my grandma who answered questions and told some marvelous stories.”

Hesperia woman creates support group, fights for home after losing husband to COVID-19 Victorville Daily Press From her Hesperia home, Maria “Lulu” Davalos struggled to explain how her husband, Jose, died nearly three weeks after contracting COVID-19 from a family member. “Some people say COVID-19 is a hoax or it’s just like the flu,” Davalos said. “All I know is that after 38 years of marriage, I lost my husband to this virus that has taken so many lives.” Jose Davalos was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Nov. 19 and admitted three days later to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley, said his wife, who works as a lead cook for the Victor Elementary School District.
