New York isn’t going anywhere : Bearsun takes his time in the High Desert during walk from LA to NYC

While the temperature in the Victor Valley approached the 110-degree mark over the weekend, hundreds of locals took selfies with Bearsun, a six-foot-tall teddy bear who’s walking from Los Angeles to New York City in the summer heat.
California native Jesse Larios, 33, created the bear character and suit, which he’ll wear during the nearly 3,000-mile journey in hopes to raise funds for several nonprofits, including the Autism Society for America and National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Hikers suffering dehydration rescued in Apple Valley by sheriff s helicopter crew

Three hikers suffering from dehydration in the Deep Creek Spillway area of Apple Valley were rescued over the weekend by a San Bernardino County Sheriff s Aviation Unit.
Breanna Gil, 21; Destiny Quiroz, 20; and Nathaniel Sanchez, 23, all from Adelanto, were rescued by a sheriff s 40-King-5 helicopter crew, who transported the trio to medical personnel for evaluation, the sheriff’s report said.
The Sheriff’s Department on Monday did not have information on the physical condition of those rescued.
At approximately 2:20 p.m. Saturday, sheriff s dispatch received a 911 call from Sanchez, who requested help for his two friends who could no longer continue hiking due to dehydration.

Foodies across the High Desert are excited about the new Roll-Em-Up Taquitos eatery coming this summer to Restaurant Row on Amargosa Road in Victorville.
The Southern California-based “street casual” restaurant is known for its beef, chicken and cheese taquitos, which are hand-rolled, pan-fried in cast iron skillets and made daily, according to the company.
The Victorville Roll-Em-Up will occupy the building that once housed the Cafe Rio Mexican Grill at the retail development that’s also home to Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and several other eateries.
Cafe Rio opened to much fanfare in 2017 and closed three years later. The company did not disclose the reason for shuttering the location, but industry leaders believe state restrictions on restaurants amid the COVID-19 pandemic led to the closure, the Daily Press reported.
When does Chick-fil-A open in Victorville? Thursday
Chick-fil-A, the Georgia-based fast-food chain known for its cow mascots urging people to eat more chickin, will
officially open its first store in the High Desert on Thursday.
Located on Mariposa Road just north of Bear Valley Road in Victorville, the new 5,000-square-foot chicken restaurant will have a double drive-thru and indoor children’s play area.
Chick-fil-A employees this week are expected to finish training before they begin serving guests chicken sandwiches, waffle fries, nuggets, tenders, milkshakes and breakfast items.
