Marshfield Fire and Police Commission: Residents want to remove two members

MARSHFIELD - Over 100 residents are asking the city to remove two Fire and Police Commission members involved in events that led to the removal of Mayor Bob McManus and for police to investigate them for misconduct. City Administrator Steve Barg confirmed he received the 152-page complaint at 9:30 a.m. Monday from Marshfield resident Marisa Steinbach. Steinbach was unavailable Monday and Tuesday for an interview. The complaint alleges both Andy Keogh and Randy Gershman violated several Wisconsin statutes and outlines both shared and individual infractions. The complaint says both Keogh and Gershman: Failed to adhere to open meeting laws. Failed to maintain proper electronic communication while in their elected positions.

After two consecutive 5-to-5 tie votes by the city’s 10 aldermen last night, a coin flip put District Two representative Nick Poeschel in the role of Common Council President, replacing District Six Alderman Tom Witzel. And since the Council voted to remove Bob McManus from the Mayor’s office on March 22nd, the Council President has been–and will continue–fulfilling the baseline duties of that office, like signing official city documents and presiding over Council meetings. The future of the Mayor’s office will be up for discussion next Tuesday, April 27th, after the Council last week decided to wait until new Alderman Brian Varsho took his seat in District Four.

Following a closed session that lasted one hour and 15 minutes, the Common Council voted unanimously last night to direct City Attorney Harold Wolfgram to provide a legal analysis of the complaint, and to report back to the Council at its next regular meeting April 27th.
