Allegations have surfaced that the Rhode Island Department of Transportation s failure to properly maintain a construction area at the intersection of Interstate 95 and Route 146 led to two nighttime crashes.
In an internal memo procured by GoLocalProv, Rhode Island State Police describe conditions that allegedly contributed to two collisions that took place early Sunday in Providence.

Rhode Island state and local law enforcement agencies say they are prepared for the anticipated surge of people out and about this holiday weekend- as mostly all COVID-19 restrictions across the state have been lifted after the past 14 months.
AAA Travel says they are anticipating more than 37 million people to travel 50 miles or more from home this weekend- which would be an increase of 60% from MDW 2020.
Lt. Charles Lavalley with the Rhode Island State Police, says this weekend already they have arrested dozens of suspected drivers under the influence MDW 2021- including a suspected DUI driver who hit a R.I. state police cruiser Sunday morning in Providence. He adds, they also have seen more accidents this weekend than normal, which could be attributed to rain and low visibility.

RIDOT again evaluating Pawtucket River Bridge light outages

PAWTUCKET – Regular outages of lights on the landmark Pawtucket River Bridge continue to diminish its overall look, prompting the Rhode Island Department of Transportation to evaluate options going forward.
The Valley Breeze reported five years ago this month that RIDOT officials believed they’d finally resolved all issues with the lights on the Pawtucket River Bridge and were almost ready to accept the $81 million project as complete.
