Cinema to be converted into conference hall

The 130-year-old Odeon Cinema at Rawalpindi Cantonment will be transformed into a conference hall as a comprehensive plan has been devised for modernising Pakistan’s biggest Cantonment Board.
Earlier, the management committee of the Lansdowne Trust had rendered the cinema dysfunctional.
The theatre was built by Rai Bahadur Sardar Karpal Singh and Rai Bahadur Sardar Sujan Singh in 1897. It was the time when even talkies had not been introduced and silent movies had just started.

ISLAMABAD: The participants of a meeting of residents, living in G-13 and G14, have unanimously passed a resolution urging the higher authorities to withdraw what they call “under-consideration transfer” of Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) Director-General (DG) Waseem Hayat Bajwa.
The meeting, attended by large number of residents from G-13 and G-14, was held in G-13 sector here Saturday on 1-point agenda of under-consideration transfer of FGEHA, DG.
They agreed on actions if the proposed transfer of Mr Bajwa was not reversed, including approaching the prime minister and staging protest demonstrations. The residents were of the view that Mr Bajwa should be allowed to complete these projects.

People parking their vehicles on any of the seven main roads within the limits of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) will have to pay parking charges.
According to a notification issued by RCB, all the seven major roads in the jurisdiction of the board and the Singapore Plaza have been designated as a regular commercial parking area. The said roads include Saddar Road, Bank Road, Adamjee Road, Hospital Road, Haider Road, Kashmir Road and Canning Road.

The Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation (RMC) demolished several shops built on storm drains and roadsides in Bohar Bazaar on Thursday, a spokesperson shared.
He said that the police and anti-encroachment staff closed the road for any sort of traffic before the operation was carried out that went on for about three hours with heavy machinery being employed under the supervision of the RMC Chief Officer Ali Abbas Bukhari. He added that the shops built on storm drains and along roadsides were completely illegal.
