Christmas celebrated with fervour in twin cities Prayers offered for an end to the pandemic across the world December 26, 2020 ISLAMABAD: Christmas was celebrated by the Christian community in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi with fervour and enthusiasm like the rest of the country. Christian devotees went to churches for the Christmas Mass in large numbers. The prayer ceremonies were held in the churches under the standard operating procedures (SOPs) devised for the prevention of novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19). Special prayers were offered for peace in the country and an end to the pandemic across the world. In Rawalpindi, St Joseph s Catholic Church in Lalkurti held prayer ceremonies. The prayer service began at 10:30am and bells rang in the churches which were beautifully decorated. RCB s Shining Saddar project welcomed

RCB’s ‘Shining Saddar’ project welcomed Islamabad December 27, 2020 Rawalpindi : The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) President Muhammad Nasir Mirza has welcomed the Rs325 million development project, titled ‘Shining Saddar’ by the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) for beautification of the city. Under the Shining Saddar project 150 million rupee has been allocated for repair of roads and sidewalks, Rs30 million for beautification of markets, Rs120 million has been allocated for laying underground cables and Rs25million for the construction of parking areas. Under the pilot project, work has started on Adamjee Road where a sewerage line is being laid. Christmas celebrations devoid of festivity due to Covid-19 - Newspaper

People were asked to follow the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) while attending the services. The community members met their friends and relatives outside the churches. Most of the people who arrived with their families to attend the Christmas services were in a hurry. Security arrangements were made by the Rangers and police in main worship places of Christians including St. Jospeh’s Cathedral, Christ Church near Pear Continental Hotel and St. Paul’s Church in front of the main gate of the GHQ. The main roads were closed during the Christmas services. Several churches organised midnight services on Thursday where prayers were offered. The midnight services were followed by morning services at different churches.

RCB anti-encroachment operation

December 22, 2020 Rawalpindi:Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has confiscated four truckloads goods from different markets under its campaign against encroachments. According to RCB spokesman, the anti-encroachment operation on the special instruction of Cantonment Executive Officer (CEO) was being conducted on daily basis. He said, the grand clean-up operation against encroachments had further been accelerated. He said, encroachments were removed from Tench Bhatta, Peoples Colony, Bakra Mandi Road, Chor Chowk and Allahabad and four truckload goods were confiscated while enforcement teams also removed illegal banners from different areas. The vendors found selling their products while displaying on footpaths and different roads were imposed fines with warnings, he said adding, the encroachments both temporary and permanent were being removed.
