Murder trial begins for Chance Copeland, accused of killing Cassie Oden

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Opening statements began in the murder trial for Chance Lee Copeland, 32, of Lubbock. He has been charged with the June 3, 2019 murder of 37-year-old Cassie Oden.

The Assistant District Attorney Cassie Nesbitt started by saying Copeland fired six shots at a car Cassie Oden was driving while she was trying to get away from him.
“You are not going to like some of the things some of the witnesses are involved with. They were involved in drug transactions but that doesn’t give this defendant the right to commit a murder,” she stated.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - A woman, a 14-year-old and a 12-year-old were arrested Wednesday evening after the Lubbock County Sheriffâs Office was called to the 200 block of Kimberly Drive.
LSO officials say deputies were investigating a fight when Amanda Lee Guzman, 32, assaulted her 14-year-old juvenile son nearby.
During the investigation, it was determined the 14-year old juvenile may have also assaulted his mother. Deputies attempted to talk to the juvenile when he ran from the scene. He was found nearby and deputies say he physically resisted arrest.
