Lafayette Parish Deputy Clyde Kerr III, 43, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to a preliminary coroner’s report. He was outside the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, according to Capt. John Mowell. Kerr became a deputy in 2015, Mowell said. He was a New Orleans native, Army veteran and father of two boys.

The complaint was one of 28 turned over to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff s Office in November by the Evangeline Council after the council received them from a commission working on the Boy Scouts of America bankruptcy case.

LPSO arrest two suspects in drug bust involving 40 pounds of narcotics and last updated 2021-02-05 14:36:37-05 LAFAYETTE, La. — The Lafayette Parish Sheriff s Office announced Friday that it had arrested two men and seized nearly 40 pounds of illegal narcotics after consecutive overnight traffic stops led to the discovery of drugs and weapons. According to a release from LPSO, on Feb. 4, at approximately 12:45 a.m., narcotics agents conducted a traffic stop near I-10 in Lafayette Parish. During the stop, agents located just under four pounds of Cocaine after a K9 positively alerted to the presence of narcotics. LPSO says they found an FN .45 caliber firearm, corresponding ammunition and a small amount of MDMA located in the vehicle.

Louisiana sheriff’s deputy Clyde Kerr III took his own life on Monday outside of his workplace at the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.  According to reports, Kerr left a series of videos on social media in which he talked directly to the camera about several topics, including police brutality against Blacks, the mental health needs of officers, as well as issues like existing division in American society and how children are affected by exposure to violence and other traumatizing influences.

UPDATE: (4:21 P.M.) Barry Rozas and his attorney Kevin Stockstill will join us tomorrow morning at 7:20 on Acadiana s Morning News.  UPDATE: (4:00 P.M.) Barry J Rozas held a press conference this afternoon where he vehemently denied the allegation that he hurt anyone, anytime. He stood at the podium with his attorney, Kevin Stockstill. Rozas says that no one has heard his side of the story. He says he openly wanted to give a statement and be interviewed by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff s Office in reference to the allegations, but that has not happened. Stockstill says they were made aware of the allegation after the person making the allegation called a hotline for victims of sexual abuse in the Boy Scout at some point at the end of last year in relation to a class-action lawsuit. He added that this situation was alleged to have happened in 2004.
