Mayor-President Guillory reorganizes three LCG departments KATC and last updated 2021-07-07 20:10:03-04 Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory has called for an administrative reorganization of three Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) Departments with the goal of serving Lafayette’s citizens effectively. The administration says they have identified the best alignment for the Community Development, Parks and Recreation, and Development and Planning Departments. Guillory said, These changes will strengthen synergies and create more internal efficiency, while providing better products and services for Lafayette Parish citizens. Parks and Recreation is now the Parks, Art, Recreation, and Culture (PARC) Department. They say their mission is to align arts and culture with parks and recreation. The Heymann Performing Arts Center, Lafayette Science Museum, Acadiana Park Nature Station, and Senior Centers now fall under the PARC department, they say.

Lafayette Giving Key to 3 Local Athletes Headed to Tokyo Olympics

On Friday, July 2nd, Lafayette will celebrate three area athletes who have earned a spot in the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, by presenting each of them with a key to the Hub City. Olympians Morgann LeLeux (pole vault), Aliaksei Shostak (men’s trampoline gymnastics), and Nicole Ahsinger (women’s trampoline gymnastics) will be honored on Friday as Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory will present a key to each of them. These amazing athletes have shown true passion, determination, and dedication in their journey to compete in the Tokyo Olympic Games, said Guillory to KPEL News. FEMA Granting $6 2 Million to Lafayette Parish for Flood Projects

  Last week s torrential rainfall event and related flooding highlight the importance of pre-disaster mitigation efforts, says Congressman Higgins in a press release. My office supports investments like these and others made through the Louisiana Watershed Initiative. We will continue working with our local, state, and federal partners to prioritize investments in flood mitigation. These efforts produce long-term cost savings and make our communities more resilient. Here are the hazard mitigation projects the grant money will fund: $3,420,195 to fund the elevation of seven structures and the acquisition of seven structures, which are all designated as Severe Repetitive Loss properties. $2,799,760 to fund the elevation of five structures and the acquisition of eight structures, which are designated as either Repetitive Loss or Severe Repetitive Loss properties.

Shipping Company Purchases Old Northside Lafayette Walmart Buildi

The old Walmart building on the Northwest Evangeline Thruway will soon have new life. Two years after the retailer vacated the Northside facility, a dropshipping company has purchased the property to consolidate its operations and employees under one roof. Completeful chief executive officer Josh Goree made that announcement Monday morning at the offices of the Lafayette Economic Development Authority. He was joined by LEDA CEO Gregg Gothreaux, Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory, Lafayette city councilman Glenn Lazard, and Lafayette Parish councilmen AB Rubin, John Guilbeau, and Josh Carlson. Completeful is expected to close its purchase of the building on Tuesday and begin moving its equipment into the facility on the same day. According to Goree, all employees and operations will be moved into the old Walmart building by June 15 the same day the company must vacate its three other Lafayette Parish offices. Goree says the company will occupy about 50 percent of the building
