Longford mum does u-turn on paying victim

A mother of five has paid €700 to a woman she dragged back by the hair in Longford town last year, just two weeks after vowing to do time instead of paying compensation to her victim.
Claire Hishon (31), 5 O’Connor Park, Longford had told a sitting of Longford District Court on April 27 last that she would rather serve a spell behind bars than hand over any money to Gemma Kirwan who she assaulted along the county town’s Main Street last year.
The incident, which took place on November 18 2020, left Ms Kirwan with an injury to her thumb and pain to her lower back.

A man disputing a charge of driving while holding a mobile phone is to reappear at Longford District Court on June 22, where he will produce a phone bill in an effort to prove that he was not using his phone when observed by a member of the Roads Policing Unit in Granard last year.
Pat Donnelly, Barrack Street, Granard, was pulled over by Gda Aidan Lenehan last March.
“On March 31, 2020, at 9.55am on Barrack Street, I saw a jeep and observed the driver holding a black mobile phone. He was holding it with his left hand, across his face to his right ear,” Gda Lenehan told the court last week.
Longford pharmacist told to stay away from garda he allegedly assaulted

A Longford pharmacist accused of drug driving and dislocating the shoulder of a garda after a high speed chase last year has been told to stay away from his alleged victim after a court heard he attempted to approach the officer last weekend.
Sean Stakelum (37) 2A Park Road, Longford agreed to abide by the condition after it was revealed gardaí raised a matter of concern following an alleged incident in which Garda Barry Gillespie was allegedly approached by Mr Stakelum.
The locally based pharmacist had previously appeared before Longford District Court on March 2 arising out of an incident in Longford town on October 4 and 5 2020.
Death threats made to four Longford gardaí during ‘volatile’ incident

A Longford man allegedly threatened to kill four gardaí while his daughter allegedly attacked two officers with a beer bottle and household ornament during the course of a violent row, a court has heard.
Darren Kelly (35) 67 Ardnacassa Avenue, Longford appeared at last week’s District Court sitting charged with four counts of threatening to kill gardaí David Conroy, Leo Shiel, John Fitzmaurice and Joe Kavanagh alongside a charge of resisting arrest following an incident on St Stephen’s Day last year.
His 18-year-old daughter Demi Kelly, of 17 Canal Green, Prospect Woods, Longford was also in attendance at last Tuesday’s weekly court sitting charged with two counts of assault and two counts of producing an article during the course of a dispute.

Two men who allegedly assaulted another man during a violent row in Edgeworthstown over two years ago are to be served with books of evidence.
Alan Whelan (26), 65 Gleann Riada, Strokestown Road, Longford and Eamon Stokes, 66 Gleann Riada, Strokestown Road, Longford were both charged following an alleged altercation at Pound Street, Edgeworthstown, Co Longford on January 7 2019.
Mr Whelan stands accused of carrying out a section 3 assault, being found in possession of a hatchet, dangerous driving and failing to offer assistance to an injured man while being the driver of car.
