Prison sentence for man who breached barring order

A man who breached a barring order has been sentenced to nine months in prison, with four months suspended on the condition that he take all medication prescribed to him and remain alcohol and drug free prior to his release.
Ciarán Higgins, of no fixed abode, has appeared on a number of occasions before Judge Seamus Hughes for theft, public order, assault and domestic violence.
He has been in custody since January 16 and his sentence has been backdated to then.
At a sitting of Longford District Court two weeks ago, it was heard that on December 14, 2020, at 11.10pm, gardaí received reports from the man’s father that he was in the house in breach of a barring order.

Three men have avoided conviction at Longford District Court last week after they were charged with “recklessly permitting” a horst to pose a danger to other road users while driving horse-drawn sulkies on the N4.
Martin Anthony McGinley of 5 Glack View, Longford, Christy McGinley and Martin McGinley, both of 33 Glack, Longford, told the court last week that they were exercising their horses at Coolnahinch, Longford on June 12, 2020, when they were stopped by gardaí.
On that day, shortly after 11am, gardaí received a number of reports of three males racing sulkies on the N4. Garda Allan Doherty and Garda Rachel Carlin made their way to the where they observed the three sulkies on the hard shoulder.

Man to appear in court charged with Edgeworthstown petrol bomb incident

A man is due to appear at tomorrow s sitting of Longford District Court, charged with a petrol bomb incident in a vehicle in the Cloverwell area of Edgeworthstown on Saturday night, into the early hours of Sunday morning.
Gardaí responded to reports of the incident and arrested and charged a male suspect who appeared at a sitting of Mullingar District Court this morning.
He has been remanded in custody to Longford District Court tomorrow morning.

A man charged with having a screwdriver and a metal bar in his car when searched by gardaí has been ordered to pay €350 to St Christopher’s Services by next month.
At a sitting of Longford District Court last week, it was heard that, on March 19, 2020, Ronan Stokes, Corboy, Edgeworthstown, was searched by gardaí and found to be in possession of the items.
Solicitor for the defence, Bríd Mimnagh, explained that her client had been stopped by two gardaí who searched the car, found no issue and let him go.
