Man Arrested After Allegedly Beating Accused Thief With Bat

It appears that an Opelousas man may have taken the law into his own hands - literally. 53-year-old Leon Cassimere, Jr., has been arrested after he was allegedly caught on Sunday night beating another male with an aluminum bat. Investigating deputies with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff s Office say, when questioned, Cassimere accused the victim of stealing items from his property multiple times and that he wanted to handle the situation himself.     The alleged beating happened in a ditch near the intersection of Lilac Road and Highway 167 in Opelousas. Investigators say the victim was walking down Highway 167 that day when Cassimere allegedly pulled the jeep over, got out with the bat and yelled, I m going to kill you! before beating the victim. A witness told deputies that the white male victim crawled out of the ditch covered in blood as Cassimere drove away in a black jeep as he left the scene. One of the witnesses says he tried to follow the jeep but traffic interfered.

Four Juveniles Arrested for Allegedly Trashing Grolee Elementary

ORIGINAL STORY (July 12th): As of yet, there have been no arrests in the case where someone trashed an elementary school in Opelousas. Officials are still working to figure out who is responsible for all of the damage. It is such a sad day when someone has so little to do that they decide to go to an elementary school just to tear things up. That is just the case with Grolee Elementary in Opelousas. Officials with the St. Landry Parish Crime Stoppers program are featuring the case of the person or persons who vandalized some of the classrooms at the school.

2 Men Allegedly Attack Boy in Front Yard of Opelousas Home

A teenage boy is recovering after taking a beating in his front yard. According to a press release from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff s Office, the victim was standing in his front yard in the 300 block of Dynasty Lane in Opelousas on Wednesday night when 20-year-old Josiah Joseph of Opelousas allegedly ran up to him and punched him in the face. As the victim tried to defend himself, he fell to the ground and 18-year-old Damian Lastrapes - also of Opelousas - allegedly joined in on the beating, kicking the victim in the head and helping Joseph punch and stomp the victim.

Palmetto Man Accused of Biting and Beating Pregnant Woman w/ Pipe

34-year-old Jai Marcellous Rideau of Palmetto has been arrested after he allegedly brutally attacked a pregnant woman while trying to rob her. According to a press release from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff s Office, deputies responded to 595 Winston Road on Saturday to a domestic abuse call. Deputies were told Rideau became angry with the victim for trying to leave, so he allegedly beat her with the PVC pipe. He also allegedly ran to her vehicle and jumped in through the driver s side window, allegedly choked her which caused her to black out, and while still holding the pipe, allegedly stole cash and an Apple watch from her. It is then alleged that he pulled her through the now open door and began punching her in the stomach.
