The decision came at the conclusion of a preliminary hearing. “The defendant will be bound over on both counts,” District Judge Gerald Kuckelman said. Thomas, 25, is charged in Leavenworth County District Court with first-degree murder and contributing to a child’s misconduct. The charges stem from an April 14 shooting in Leavenworth, which resulted in the death of Brian Henderson Jr., Kansas City, Missouri.

Nichols probably will testify Thursday during a motions hearing in Leavenworth County District Court. Nichols, 20, is charged with first-degree murder in connection to the July 18 shooting death of Sanquan M. Brooks in Leavenworth. Nichols is accused of what is known as felony murder, which is a form of first-degree murder. Felony murder occurs when someone is killed during the commission of a felony that is considered inherently dangerous. Prosecutors argue the shooting occurred during a drug transaction. But Nichols’ attorney, Gregory Robinson, argues his client was the victim of an attempted robbery.

The victim testified during a June 28, 2019, hearing that he was shot multiple times after Owens allegedly forced his way into the home. Former Leavenworth police officer s trial scheduled for next year

Harrington’s jury trial is scheduled to begin Jan. 31 in Leavenworth County District Court, according to court records. Harrington, 27, is charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection to a July 11, 2017, shooting that resulted in the death of Antonio Garcia Jr., 47. The shooting occurred while Harrington was working as a member of the Leavenworth Police Department. The date for Harrington’s jury trial was selected as the defendant appeared in court Friday through the Zoom online videoconferencing service, according to court records.
