Minister visits Durdle Door to see 5G Rural Dorset project

First responders using Excelerate technology Picture: Montpellier Public Relations While our 5G network infrastructure on this project has been delivered in around 18 months, it s actually 20 years in the making and a culmination of everything we have done over the past two decades to connect people s worlds. Robust and resilient connectivity shouldn t be a privilege, it should be for everyone and every sector regardless of location. This potentially life-saving information, where live updates of sea conditions and even cliff erosion would normally be inaccessible in areas that lack connectivity. It will also help to take some of the strain off ambulance and first responder services, not to mention agencies such as the coastguard and RNLI.

5G Rural Dorset project reaches milestone

A MAJOR milestone in improved internet access on the Jurassic Coast has been reached as a new network is installed. The 700 MHz private 5G network has this week been installed to cover a stretch of coastline at Ringstead, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. The installation supports the Dorset Council-led 5G Rural Dorset project, an £8 million initiative which aims to understand how rural communities could benefit from next generation mobile connectivity. Last month, project leaders announced they will fit a Lulworth First Responders vehicle with 5G technology to allow the team to connect to the new network infrastructure which will allow critical data to be transferred to emergency services and improve response time to patients.

Lulworth First Responders use new 5G technology

EMERGENCY services will be able to respond faster to casualties in need as they are brought into the 21st century with new 5G connectivity. Lulworth First Responders - volunteers with South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) - are working with technology and connectivity partner Excelerate Technology to benefit from 5G capabilities and better respond to patients. The technology company has announced it will fit the Lulworth First Responders vehicle with a router and Excell, its cellular optimisation product. This will allow the first responder team to connect to the new 5G network infrastructure that was installed in Dorset in May, thanks to £8m of funding from Dorset Council, industry partners and the Department for Digital, Media and Sport.
