Corrupt former Louisville homicide Detective Mark Handy, who helped send as many as four innocent men to prison, will now spend one year there himself.
Handy has agreed to plead guilty to perjury and tampering with physical evidence in a deal in which he has promised not to seek probation.
He signed the deal Monday, though it must be approved April 5 by Jefferson Circuit Judge Olu Stevens.
Handy agreed to plead guilty last August in a deal that would have given him probation, but Stevens rejected that as too lenient.
Stevens said probation would have depreciated the seriousness of Handy s offense against Edwin Chandler, who was wrongfully convicted 25 years ago and spent 10 years behind bars before he was exonerated.
