Milk processors in NI have responded to the upturn in commodity markets by applying price increases for February.
The biggest increase comes from Glanbia Ireland, which has added 1.5p/l to its base. Glanbia also pays a 1.5p/l winter bonus for February, meaning its suppliers are on an all-in starting price of 30p/l.
With a 1p/l increase in base price, plus a 1p/l winter bonus on February milk, Strathroy Dairy is just behind with a starting price of 29.5p/l.
On Monday, Dale Farm announced it would add 1p/l to its February price which brings suppliers to a base of 28.55p/l, inclusive of its 0.3p/l loyalty bonus.

The island’s milk pool faces a “ridiculous scenario” where milk produced in the Republic of Ireland is in some instances no longer deemed Irish if it is processed north of the border, a major cross-border processor has warned.
The issue came to light this week after a controversial advert run by the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA) accused retailers of trying to use in-house branding to push down milk prices.
The adverts have raised a few eyebrows, with an industry source explaining they could be an attempt to pressurise retailers into buying only NDC-approved milk, rather than from cross-border companies.

Dairygold has become the latest processor to reveal its milk price for February, making the move to increase its figure.
The southern cooperative has increased its February quoted milk price by 1.7c/L.
This means the co-op’s milk price is 34.0c/L, based on standard constituents of 3.3% protein and 3.6% butterfat, inclusive of bonuses and VAT.
In addition, the February Early Calving Bonus of 2.0c/L will be paid on milk supplied in February in accordance with milk quality criteria.
This milk price equates to an average February farm gate milk price of 40.8c/L based on average February milk solids achieved by Dairygold milk suppliers, a spokesperson for the co-op says.

Kerry Group has become the latest processor to reveal its February milk price, announcing its decision to lift the price for last month’s supplies.
This makes Kerry the third processor, following on from price announcements last week from Lakeland Dairies and Glanbia.
In a brief statement this morning (Monday, March 15), a spokesperson for the processor said:
Our Kerry Group base price for February milk supplies will increase by 1c/L to 33c/L including VAT at 3.30% protein and 3.60% butterfat.
This translates to 36.266c/L including VAT at EU Standard Constituents 3.40% protein and 4.20% butterfat, the spokesperson added.
“Based on Kerry’s average milk solids for February, the milk price return inclusive of VAT and bonuses is 38.32c/L,” the group representative said.
