More than 90,000 people have registered for vaccinations through Polk County s online portal, and about 28,000 have been assigned appointments, Riley said. Her office estimates that 15,000 on the list either received prior vaccination elsewhere or are duplicates.
That leaves a projected balance of 47,300 awaiting appointments for vaccinations, Riley said.
Polk County now ranks 14th among Florida’s 67 counties for the number of vaccinations. Polk, which is ninth in population, ranked 20th in the first weeks of the statewide vaccine program.
More than 3.4 million vaccine doses had been administered in Florida through Sunday, the state agency reported, with more than 2.3 million people vaccinated. Those figures included injections given at events overseen by the Department of Health and through a partnership with private pharmacies.

Vaccine appointment organized and easy
Lakeland Regional is doing it right! My husband and I were two of the lucky ones whose names were given to Lakeland Regional Health to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to us. They called and left a callback number, which I was able to reach very easily and set up an appointment. We have had our first shot at a very organized location and have an appointment for the second. Thank you, Lakeland Regional, for making it so easy for us.

For seniors, the Florida Department of Health in Polk County received 11,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine again this week 7,000 for first doses and 4,000 reserved for second doses according to spokeswoman Nicole Riley.
Riley said she anticipates abut 5,500 of the 7,000 first doses will be administered to individuals on the county s waiting list. As of Monday, there were nearly 70,000 seniors 65 or older on the waiting list, according to Riley, who said this number does not reflect those who have already received a vaccination, have been scheduled for upcoming appointments or duplicates.
